Established in 1983 as an affiliate of MPT. It later became a subsidiary of China Telecom. Prior to Chinasat 5, the DFH program was purely military; Chinasat 5 was the first civilian satellite.
In 2000, it splited from China Telecom acquired China Orient Satellite in 2001. Chinasat also controls APT. The company was merged into China Direct Broadcast Satellite Company in late-2007.
