Company formed in 1975, it was a wholly-owned subsidiary of GE Capital Services, a General Electric company.

In Mar 2001 the company was bought by SES Global, and was renamed (previous name: GE Americom). The satellites were renamed AMC.

In Sep 2009, the service changed name to SES World Skies to integrate SES New Skies.
