In Dec 2006, it was announced the company would merge with Loral Skynet and be owned by a new Telesat company, a joint venture between PSP Investments and Loral Space & Communications. BCE, the previous owner, will get $2.8 billion for it.

In Nov 2020 the company became a subsidiary of Telesat Corporation, a new publicly traded Canadian company (listed on Nasdaq). In Nov 2021 the company started trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSAT).
