Program: Palapa
"Palapa" means "unity" in Indonesian
Indonesian telecommunication program
The program was developed in 1975 to solve communications (phone, TV) problems
between the numerous islands that compose the country. Two years after the
Philippines asked to use to system for their national communications. In 1979
Intelsat
recognized the system as a regional operator.
Nowadays the Palapa system is operated by two companies.
PT Telkom
is state owned and operates (and operated) the Palapa A, B and D's. Palapa C's
are operated by a private company,
PT Satelindo.
A third company owns and operates a few transponders:
