Operated by the China Academy of Sciences, the 500 kg satellite contains a quantum key communicator, quantum entanglement emitter, entanglement source, processing unit, and a laser communicator.

QSS will conduct experiments on high-speed quantum key distribution between the satellite and ground stations (one in China, and the other in Europe), as well as explore quantum teleportation for the first time in the world.
