Launched on a bad orbit (faulty perigee motor) it was retrieved on 12 Nov 1984 by STS 19. This retrieval was financed by the insurance companies, despite the operator's refusal to retrieve it and asked for the insurance money (then used to order Palapa B2P). Some time later the operator changed it's mind and relaunched it as Palapa B2R.
